On behalf of the Board of Supervisors, I want to share some great news for La Paz County…
Yesterday, H.R. 2630, the La Paz County Land Conveyance Act passed out of the United States House of Representatives by voice vote. We owe tremendous gratitude to Congressman Paul Gosar for sponsoring this legislation, and shepherding it through the process over a number of months to see it pass yesterday. In addition to Congressman Gosar we very much appreciate Co-Sponsors to the legislation, Congressmen Andy Biggs and Trent Franks, and Congresswoman Kyrsten Sinema. All of these Representatives, along with Congresswoman Martha McSally played important roles in seeing that the legislation passed the House. On a local level, we very much appreciate the support and advocacy of the Colorado River Indian Tribes, which played a major role in the success of the legislation.
The legislation now moves to the United States Senate where it is championed by Senator Jeff Flake. Other members of our Arizona Delegation will also continue working to help see the legislation through to a successful outcome. When the legislation becomes law, it will allow La Paz County to acquire 8,800 acres of land from the BLM at fair market value for the purpose of promoting jobs and economic development in La Paz County. H.R. 2630 will help implement our County’s vision to attract new industry, especially solar development to this strategic location to diversify our local economy, create quality jobs and increase the tax base so our rural County can adequately meet the growing needs of all our citizens.
We still have a long way to go… but it’s a good time to take a breath and celebrate this great news for La Paz County. It’s something all County personnel can take pride in!
