Sheri Newman has proudly served the citizens of La Paz County as the elected Clerk of the Superior Court since January 1991. Prior to her first election Sheri served as the Superior Court Presiding Judge’s Judicial Assistant for more than six years and prior to that time worked in the office of the La Paz County Board of Supervisors. Newman is a native Arizonan, growing up in the metropolitan Phoenix area but returning to her family hometown of Parker in 1983.
As Clerk, Sheri is the official record keeper and financial officer for the Superior Court responsible for Civil, Criminal, Family, Probate and Juvenile case filings. Further the Clerk issues writs and warrants; takes and transcribes all court minutes for all court proceedings; is the Probate Registrar; maintains all court exhibits used as evidence; is the Jury Commissioner, providing qualified jurors for trials from the lists of all registered voters and holders of drivers’ licenses; collects all fees for the Superior Court; accepts passport applications; issues and records marriage licenses.

Sheri is a strong advocate of providing quality customer service to all of the court’s users, especially by addressing the needs of the growing ranks of unrepresented litigants by creating a self-help center. Sheri was recognized for her outstanding contributions to the Arizona Court System having been awarded the Arizona Supreme Court’s “Administration of Justice Award” in 2002. Newman was praised for her guidance in the development of the Arizona court Automation Project, her continued efforts to improve the Arizona jury system and her many accomplishments promoting the fair administration of justice in Arizona.
